Welcome to the theatre program at Trinity Middle School!!
My name is David Young and I am the theatre arts director for both Trinity Middle School and Trinity High School.
This will be my 13th year teaching public school. I began teaching in 2008 as a HS/MS theatre teacher at Brownsboro ISD. In 2012 I added the title of choir director as I began the first choir Brownsboro had ever had in their school district. For the next three years, 2012-2015, I taught both high school and middle school theatre and choir. In 2015 I had the opportunity to move to Lufkin and take over a 6A theatre program with a state-of-the-art auditorium and a couple thousand students to work with. I taught just theatre in Lufkin for three years. I enjoyed teaching in Lufkin, however, I missed the feel of a small school district. Looking for a change of pace and a more “family” school district I came to Trinity ISD to be the high school and middle school choir teacher. This year, when Mr. Miller left, I was given the chance to switch to theatre and I took it.
In my personal life I am all about family and church. My wife and I will be celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary this October! Over the course of those 23 years we’ve added three girls and 2 boys to our family (and one dog named Halpert). All three of my girls are graduated from high school, and my two boys are in Hudson school district where their mother is the librarian/media specialist at the middle school. My family lives in Lufkin where we own a home and I enjoy listening to my scriptures and audiobooks on the commute to Trinity.
My educational philosophy is fairly simple; the amount of knowledge and fun you get out of a class is directly proportional to the amount of energy and enthusiasm you put into the class. THEATRE IS A PARTICIPATION CLASS! ALL members of our theatre classes must push themselves out of their comfort zones and have fun!
All I ask of my students is to trust in my ability to see the potential within each of them, even when they can’t see it themselves. My goal is to help them be better people through theatre and the arts. The fine arts give us our “humanity” and empathy.
My goal with our theatre program is to open the world of theatre to our students at Trinity ISD. I want students to see that theatre is a wonderful way to make friends, make memories and to cultivate a lifelong appreciation of theatre.
Opportunities in Theatre allow students to earn letterman's jackets, go to state with UIL One-Act Play and much more!
You can reach me at any time through my school email: email@example.com or by calling the school at (936) 594-3560 ext 4523. Each day I have a conference period at 11:35AM-12:20PM. Please let me know if you have a question or concern about your students in Theatre Arts.
