Jr. Beta Club 2020-2021 Assignments

Jr. Beta Club will be responsible for the concession stand on Monday, March 29th from 4:00-7:00. I am looking for 5-6 students to help me work during the track meet. Are you available to help out? Our invoice for state convention has $14 shipping listed, which the club needs to cover. Otherwise, each student would have to bring up an additional $1 to Mrs. Knight before I could pay the invoice with the National Beta Office. Currently, we have $5,010 in the fundraising account. I'd like to use $14 of it to cover the shipping of the state convention items.

The second shift will begin at 2:30pm and work until 4:00pm. If a student would like to work both shifts that's available, too. You need to arrange a ride to pick you up at at the end of your shift. All students will stay with me until their ride arrives and I get confirmation from a parent/guardian.

Students need to wear comfortable shoes since they will be standing the entire time. Make sure you wear your masks.

UIL will be starting next week. Listen to the announcements regarding tryouts and information. The competition will be entirely virtual and will not need to travel to another school. All competition will take place on our own campus during a normal school day and be administered in the library. Each member will be required to compete in AT LEAST 2 events this year. You will be able to compete in as many as you'd like since there will not be any conflicts to have to worry about the day of competition.

More information will be announced next week regarding tryouts from each academic coach. Any student can tryout for any event, but the students who competed and placed will be automatically on the team.

Background Info: Each year when new members are added, students pay a flat fee of $15 to get their membership pin, certificate, and card mailed. Every year, the club has paid the shipping costs using the money from the Fundraising account since it's a club expense, not a student expense. The time has come to send in our new members for this school year. Since I'm asking to use fundraiser money, I must have a vote from the club to use $10.01 from the fundraising account to cover the shipping. The cost of the items are being covered by each member with their $15 they paid. Shipping just wasn't included because it changes from year to year AND the club has paid for this in the past. Background Info: At the beginning of last year, I had each member sign the ByLaws and Constitution to agree to follow the club rules and expectations. When those expectations are not met, students are removed and forfeit their unused membership money. Last year, there were NINE (9) students who were removed from the club due to discipline and/or grades.

Action Needed from You: To balance the account, the club members need to move those students' unused membership money from the Payments account to the Fundraising account since those students are no longer active members. Please vote below so this money can be transferred to the Fundraising account and be used for "club use" rather than "specific student use."

Background Info: Last year, we started with $721.47 in the Payment account before we collected any membership dues. This amount represented unused membership money from past Jr. Beta students who are now either graduated or about to graduate from high school. During the year, the club did vote to use $500 of the amount to pay the hotel deposit for state convention. That left us with $221.47 of unspent money from previous years (before I became club sponsor) that needs to be cleared from the Payments account to the Fundraising account.

Action Needed from You: To start this year, we need to zero out the Payment account so we show a true representation of 'payments' made this school year for active club members. Therefore, the club members need to move $221.47 from the Payments account to the Fundraising account. Please vote below so this money ($221.47) can be transferred to the Fundraising account since this amount was paid by students who are no longer active members of our club.
