Course Overview & Key Highlights
In 6th Grade World Cultures, students explore geography, history, government, economics, and culture across our global society, aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
- Interactive Student Notebook (ISN): Daily notebook used for topographical maps, 3D geographic pop-ups, vocabulary, and structured notes.
- Virtual Field Trips: Immersive tours (e.g., National Parks, Niagara Falls, Sistine Chapel, Great Wall of China, Dubai, Great Barrier Reef) connecting geography with real-world cultures.
- Grading & Assignment Policies Student performance is evaluated across two weighted categories:
- Daily Grades (40%): Daily classwork, notebook checks, and mapping activities.
- Major Grades (60%): Unit tests, major projects, and formal assessments.
Homework & Make-Up Work: While traditional homework is not assigned, students who are absent or do not finish assignments within a reasonable class timeframe will need to complete their unfinished work at home. To prevent falling behind, all make-up work should be submitted as promptly as possible.
- Supplies: Composition Notebooks will be provided and kept in the classroom. Students are expected to bring a writing utensil to class each day. I have classroom supplies including glue, map pencils, scissors, etc. but if your child wants to bring their own, they are welcomed as long as they do not create distractions or disruptions.

Classroom Expectations & Behavior Consequences
Our school operates under the Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) framework to build mutual respect, constructive civil discourse, and a positive classroom community. Students are expected to adhere to our classroom social contract. The 6th Grade Team of teachers have agreed to enforce the same expectations and disciplinary steps. They are as follows:
6th Grade Expectations:
Enter Ready: Walk in quietly, go directly to your seat, and start the warmup.
Raise your hand: Wait for permission before speaking to the group or moving around.
Show Respect: Treat your classmates, the teacher, and all school property with Civility.
Be Prepared: Bring your materials (Notebook, Pencils, Assignments) every single day.
Stay Focused: Listen Actively When Others Speak and Fully Participate in Class Activities.
Own your Own Actions: Take responsibility for your choices, your work, and your mistakes.
Phones Away: Keep personal electronics turned off and out of sight during class.
The Bell does not Dismiss you, I do: Before you can leave my room, it must be clean, the desks must be in rows, and you must be in your seat. Only then will you be dismissed.
6th Grade Growth Pathway (Discipline Steps)
- Step 1: Reminder to follow the Social Contract — CKH Check
- Step 2: One-on-One Conversation — CKH Questions
- Step 3: Parent Contact to discuss behavior and plan for improvement
- Step 4: Office Referral
In this class, Students will be assigned Classroom Jobs to perform throughout each 6 Weeks. These jobs not only help our class run smoothly, they also instill a sense of responsibility and ownership.
Each semester, we will have a day set aside to sample the cuisine of areas we have studied. It is my hope that students will bring a variety of potluck items from the cultures we study to supplement the items I provide. The dates are tentatively set for 12/16/2026 and 5/27/2027. I will communicate more on these celebrations as the dates approach.
**Please note that we have students and teachers with health conditions that are aggravated by PEANUTS, PEANUT PRODUCTS, and STRONG PERFUME scents. Please do your best to keep these products at home.**
The district theme this year is Growing Minds. Growing Futures. I look forward to a great year achieving this goal and teaching your child about the history, culture, and economies of the many fascinating places in our world. Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child and support them in their transition from elementary to middle school. I am looking forward to a wonderful year! Please keep this page and return the second page to me.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Page
