Middle School Physical Education

Middle School Physical Education is a comprehensive, skills-based program designed to promote lifelong physical activity, fitness, teamwork, and personal responsibility. Students will engage in a variety of individual and team activities that develop motor skills, physical fitness, sportsmanship, and an understanding of health-related fitness concepts. Emphasis is placed on effort, participation, safety, and respect for self and others.

By the end of the school year, students will:  

- Develop fundamental movement and sport-specific skills  

- Improve cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and coordination

- Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings  

- Understand the importance of physical activity for lifelong health and wellness  

- Practice teamwork, leadership, and positive sportsmanship

Students are assessed based on participation, effort, and understanding of concepts.

Grading Breakdown:

• Participation & Effort

• 50% Warmup and Stretches

• 50% Daily Activities
  Grades are based on individual improvement, effort, and positive behavior—not athletic ability.

Students are expected to:

• Actively participate in daily activities

• Follow rules, instructions, and safety guidelines

• Show respect to peers, teachers, and equipment

• Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times

Modified activities will be provided as needed to ensure all students can participate safely and successfully.

Safety is a top priority. Students must:

• Use equipment properly

• Follow all teacher instructions

• Report injuries or unsafe conditions immediately

Inappropriate behavior, unsafe actions, or lack of cooperation may result in disciplinary action in accordance with school policy.

Regular attendance is essential for success in Physical Education. Missed classes may impact participation grades unless excused according to school policy.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact the PE teacher with any questions or concerns regarding student progress, safety, or accommodations.

Physical Education is for everyone. All students will be supported and encouraged regardless of skill level, background, or ability.
