Course Description

In 7th Grade Reading/Language Arts, students will strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, listening,

and language skills. The curriculum is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and includes

reading a variety of literary and informational texts, writing in multiple forms, building vocabulary, and developing

grammar and editing skills.

Grading Policy

Category Percentage

Major Grades (tests, essays, projects) 40%

Minor Grades (quizzes, classwork, journals, homework) 60%

Classroom Expectations

Students are expected to:

Be respectful to everyone.
Be prepared and on time.
Participate actively.
Follow all school and classroom rules.
Complete assignments in a timely manner.

For incomplete assignments students will be assigned to ZAP

ZAP (Zeroes Aren’t Permitted) is an academic intervention designed to help students stay on track by completing missing assignments. Students assigned to ZAP will complete their missing work during their lunch period. The goal is to promote responsibility, accountability, and academic success while ensuring every student has the opportunity to complete required coursework.

Class Rules:

Follow directions the first time.
Raise your hand to speak.
Use kind words and actions.
Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Bring all required materials to class.

Supplies Needed:

Pencils and pens
Independent reading book (always)

Make-Up Work

If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to ask for the missed work.

Students have the same number of days to complete the work as the number of days they were absent.
